Clash of Clans Widgets

TL;DR

Designing widgets to help Clashers save time, monitor their progress, and display their favourite Clash characters. Seen by over 120k+ Clashers.

Why Clash? Why Widgets?

Clash of Clans has been a mainstay in my life for over 10 years— a constant. And recently, I've been enjoying the customization and utility that widgets provide: Duolingo's quirky reminders, Google Drive's shortcuts, and so on. However, I noticed a lack of widgets across most mobile games, including ones that require users to check their progress frequently, like Clash of Clans upgrades, laboratory, and wars. And it wasn't just me who felt that way! I got to work and made some widgets. But…

Getting Feedback

I wanted feedback. I'm just one of millions of players, so I went to Reddit and posted my designs.

In less than 24 hours my post was viewed by over 120k+ Clashers and received 2k upvotes. I got tons of feedback— almost all positive and a few recommendations on other widgets and some slight changes that I could make.

Iterations

I made some changes and added some more widgets specifically for more underrepresented aspects of the game like the Clan Capital, Builder Base, and Legends League. Some commenters provided some other feedback and recommendations like reducing padding and changing the font on several of the widgets— I thought these were generally good ideas.

What I Learned

Social media is a good way to share your work and get feedback— it's quick and dirty which sometimes, is what you need.

Designing widgets is hard! You've got an itty bitty space that you might want to squeeze a lot of information into, but you can't. You have to pick and choose what's the most important.
